Five Minutes With Pole Vaulter Megan Frisch

“I joked about doing it before and I didn't think I could but here I am.”

Sophomore Megan Frisch’s spring has been a whirlwind, and with Track and Field regions right around the corner, the pressure and excitement begins.

Megan does both track events and field events. She does short distance, sprinting events, and pole vaults. She just found out that she has made the Lovett Region practice team and is ready for the whirlwind of Region prep to begin.

Megan first started track in middle school but only began pole vaulting last year when she was a freshman. “The pole vaulting pit has always been there down on the track and it kind of seemed fun,” Megan explained. “I joked about doing it before and I didn’t think I could but here I am.” She has ended up loving it. She said she didn’t have the chance to pole vault at Region last year, but she has high hopes for Region this year.

Megan doesn’t ever really get an off-season. She is booked, sports-wise, every season. She participates in Cross Country in the Fall, Swim in the Winter, and Track in the Spring, but she’s looking forward to some time off to relax this summer.

She was able to get some downtime over the Easter Weekend because she went to Breckenridge, Colorado with her dad. To be fair, even on a vacation, Megan was still doing something active, which was skiing. “I started [skiing] when I was eight, but I don’t go every year, and I hadn’t been since 2022.”

Of all the sports she does competitively, Track is her favorite “because it’s the most fun in terms of the balance between time being social and hanging with friends and time spent being active.” Megan also says that Track is her best sport out of the three and that she gets “to do more interesting things in Track.”

When Megan isn’t flying across the Track (literally and figuratively), she likes to read, which checks out because English is her favorite subject. Megan said she reads a lot. “You could say rom-com type of books are my go-to.” She also mentioned that she likes the books that she is reading this year in English. She loved reading A Tale of Two Cities (not my personal favorite, but to each their own). Megan doesn’t “usually like the books we read, but this year they’re pretty good.”

Megan hopes to finish the school year off as a strong student and athlete. She is planning “to grind for the AP World exam because that’s super stressful.” Megan’s main goal is to just enjoy what’s left of the semester “even though it’s hard because we’re going to be Juniors next year and that’s super scary.”
