The sophomore grade features many sets of twins: the Strattons, the Tuckers, the Wilsons, and the Smiths. But as cool as all of those pairs are, they’re all short one compared to the Newton triplets, Ridley, Sutherland, and Mary Camp.
Since they are triplets, you might assume they know everything about each other, but when I asked them separately: “What is each sister’s favorite color?” Mary Camp was the only one to get it right. “Ridley’s is probably yellow, Sutherland’s is pink, and mine is probably light blue, but it depends on the day.” I can’t help but think that Mary Camp knew the answers because she is the oldest of the three.
It took all three of them much longer to answer when I asked what each sister’s hobbies were besides sports. I was unable to tell if this long pause before their answers were because they had no hobbies or just did not know what a hobby was, “I mean, I like watching sports on TV,” Ridley said unconfidently. And it came as a surprise to me when none of their answers for each other lined up.
The triplets also have a little brother named Bunk, so of course, I had to get their take on who they thought was his favorite sister. “Definitely me or Ridley,” Mary Camp said, “but probably me because we have a club called the fun ones.” Sutherland said, “His favorite is definitely Ridley or whoever was the nicest to him that day.” And Ridley said, “It’s definitely me or Mary Camp; I would get in trouble for saying otherwise.” So clearly, there is no definitive answer, but it is definitely not Sutherland. However, the triplets were able to agree that Bunk loves having the three of them around. “Bunk loves it because we help him with everything,” said Ridley. However, having three older sisters makes for a chaotic household.
With Mary Camp and Ridley playing soccer and Sutherland being a competitive cheerleader, they are always doing something. And they are very competitive with each other inside and outside of the classroom. “Sometimes we go overboard, but in the end, we are really supportive of each other,” Ridley said.
Even with this competitiveness among the three, they still love it when they get classes together. “Whenever we have partner work, I try to be with my sisters because we work well together,” Sutherland explained. All three of them like working together as they are able to work at school and easily communicate at home.
But of course, like any set of siblings, they fight. “We argued a lot when Covid was at its height since we are so different, but we have gotten a lot better,” Mary Camp explained.
Even with their fights, they all agree that they are closer than most siblings and love being a triplet. “Ridley and Sutherland share a bathroom, so they spend all morning together and tell each other everything, and I keep a lot of secrets for both my sisters,” Mary Camp explained. “I love getting to know their friends as well as mine. It gives me a chance to meet new people.”
All three of them agreed that life would be boring without each other and they would not know what to do.
