Um, We Met Chopped Chin At NAHS…What?!

“I see it as a blessing, but it is kind of exhausting some days.”

By Taylor Johnson and Mackenna Stewart

Yes, we did follow Chopped Chin into North Atlanta High School today. Sadly, we even have a video to prove it. Double sadly, we also have a video as proof that our excursions occurred. Thankfully, they will be unable to track down the school we attended since we were not in our uniforms. Unfortunately, we were captured in our pajamas.

Truthfully, though, this would not be our first encounter with Mr. Chin. It all started when Taylor and I discovered a budding desire to dap him up. Why did we have this deep desire you might ask? Well, if you live under a rock, then you may not know about Mr. Chin’s serious courtside rhythm.

He was first captured sitting next to his mom courtside at a basketball game when he was bobbing his head right to left in perfect harmony with his shoulders. If you would like to view this internet sensation, look no further than TikTok. Just search up “chopped chin courtside.” Ever since we saw this video and simultaneously learned that he went to school just across the street at North Atlanta High School, we knew we had to meet him.

And so we did. It was approximately 12:20 in the afternoon, and after persuading both of our parents and the administrators, it was time for us to voyage over to NAHS.

Once we parked our automobile, we tried to follow a local student into the front office. To our surprise, we were locked out of the school because they said we needed to check in first. We immediately called up Chopped Chin and asked him to urgently give us instructions on how to enter the school lawfully.

We walked through the metal detectors, greeted the police officer, and were let in by a teacher after she realized we didn’t know how to open the door. “Did you press the button?” the teacher asked when she saw we were unable to enter. Either they thought we were students or thought opening doors should’ve been self-explanatory.

Now all we had to do was make it to floor 8 to meet Chopped Chin. When we made it to floor 8, we saw a beautiful sight. It looked like Manifest Destiny: Chopped Chin walking down the hall with the sun beaming on his luscious chin. Accompanying him was his first bodyguard (AKA his bestie) named DJ.

I guess it is a good idea to bring along a friend or two when a random girl on Instagram DMs you for an interview. His second bodyguard arrived just in time for our private concert.

Now you are probably wondering how Chopped Chin and his bodyguards broke into song. Angel stated that his favorite song that he’s ever covered was “If I Fall in Love”. Since I didn’t know what that song was, he took it upon himself to sing the song with the assistance of his friends. It appears as if we have a new New Edition on our hands.

When Chopped Chin isn’t performing, he is hard at work making music. Recently, Chopped Chin had a catastrophe occur on his laptop. “My laptop recently deleted all of my songs that were 2 years’ worth of work down the drain,” he said, mourning the loss.

Other than making music and dancing alongside a basketball court, Chopped Chin locks in for school. He will be attending Boston University this fall, which is a very impressive school. Lessgooo. He plans to major in film and television. “I want to minor in a lot of things or I want to double major, but I don’t know if I’m ready for that,” Angel added.

Angel feels like whatever college holds for him, he will be prepared for it because of his high school experience. He believes his business class has 100% prepared him for his future college endeavors.

Angel knew he wanted to pursue music ever since he came out of the womb, more specifically at age 2. We were astonished that a two-year-old could have such interests, let alone spell the word music. “Gaga, that was music, bro,” Angel told us, laughing.

Growing up, his favorite artist was Chris Brown, which is where he gets his love for both music and dancing. If you surf the web for @wil3y_records on Instagram, you will see numerous posts of him displaying his musical and dancing abilities, with the exception of his first post, which depicts him and his girlfriend at prom.

Our interview was filled with so many chuckles that a teacher stomped down the hall, angry, and shooed us into a musty stairwell. We had to conduct the rest of the interview in a stanky stairwell, but this did not matter to Chopped Chin and his bodyguards; they were content.

It was time for us to ask the most important question of the day, which was “How do you feel about your internet fame?” Angel quickly responded, “I see it as a blessing, but it is kind of exhausting some days.”

He explained to us that sometimes it is difficult to take a stroll to the local Publix. “If I go to Publix, an average of 5 people will come up to me and ask me for photos,” he said. If I were in that position, I would find it exhausting too. “I am a sociable person, but it gets to a point,” he said.

We then asked him what the day he became famous was like. Buckle in, this is quite the story.

“It was December 25th Christmas,” he said. “It started as any other Christmas, I was with my family chilling. I then woke up, and my phone was buzzing like nonstop buzzing. And ever since that first buzz on Christmas, it has not stopped since.”

We wondered if he expected to become famous. “Not this early. I always knew something was going to happen, but I did not think it was going to be this early in my life,” he said. We loved this confidence.

He explained to us how his social media views burst through the roof. “The first video I made after my fame got around 3 million views,” he said.

When doom-scrolling through Angel’s Instagram, we came across some photo shoots of him and what seemed to be his girlfriend. We wanted to make sure his girlfriend didn’t come from fame. “Nah, she has been here since freshman year, way before my fame. A lot of girls have tried to slide into my DMs after my fame burst through,” he said.

On the other hand, he also told us how a lot of his friends have been fake to him because of his fame, which he does not mess with. “I only stay with my friends who have been here with me since day one,” he said.

We asked if Chopped Chin had any last words to say to the people. “Take everything that life gives you as a blessing and use every resource that you have in order to accomplish what you want,” he said.

The most inspiring thing of the day he told us was his senior quote: “I enjoy the little things in life because my back is not one of them,” he told us with a grand smile, causing his chin to glow in the stairwell.

Indeed, it was a beautiful sight before Mackenna and I exited the building to zoom back to Lovett.
