“I think friendship and that connection building with others is the most crucial part."

Want to understand key investment strategies, compete within a simulated stock market against students from around the nation, and get the opportunity to connect with professionals in business and investment?

If you do, then senior Christina Dahabreh suggests you join her in the Wharton Investment Competition at Lovett.

I spoke with Christina to gain more insight into this competition and learn more about her experience.

She first became involved with the club in her junior year when Dr. Myers introduced it during morning meetings.

Teamwork is key in this competition, whether they are formulating investment strategies or creating an analytically well-thought-out portfolio. Teams are typically composed of around 4 to 7 people, and specific roles are usually assigned to each member.

Her team consists of herself, Keyuri Patel, Jake Posner, and Rhys Stieglitz.

“Over the past few years, I’ve had two different teams with two completely different groups of people,” she shared. Each time, she’s been able to make new friends across grade levels.  “I think friendship and that connection building with others is the most crucial part,” she said, “so for me that’s my favorite part of this whole program.”

Like all successful organizations, meetings are crucial to success.. They start by listing their objectives as a team in support of creating an investment portfolio for a hypothetical client. “We will start by formulating our investment strategy and then begin executing our trades through the WINS stock trading platform,” she explained.

The current project she and her team are working on is their midterm, as they are approaching the 5-week mark in the Wharton Investment Competition. One of the coolest opportunities of this club is making real-world connections.

Aldridge Wealth Management visited Lovett students, sharing their experience in investment and offering advice.

According to Christina, one of the most important things for the team is having equal contributions from all team members.

She highly encourages students to join if trading and wealth management are areas of interest to them.

Whether someone wants to pursue a career in finance, work on Wall Street, or simply learn a few helpful investment strategies that could benefit them in the future, joining this organization is the perfect place to start.
