Five Minutes With Rising Soccer Star, Duncan Ford

For part of the time, they’re “just having fun shaving heads." The other half of the time, they’re “completely locked in.”

By James Claussen, Jr.

When I sat down to talk to freshman (and Varsity soccer player) Duncan Ford in the third-floor alcove, he was studying for a math test for the next period. A scholar-athlete indeed.

I first wondered how he has played so far on Varsity. He said he’s been playing “pretty good,” and while he started on JV at the beginning of the season he has now moved up to Varsity.

The team has “won half the games” and “lost half the games.”

Considering that he’s a freshman, I wondered what it’s like to be on Varsity, with juniors and seniors getting most of the playing time. He said it’s been “so fun,” and that the seniors are big fans of the freshmen.

In terms of their schedule, they have some hard games, which are mostly “non-region games,” the worst of which is “Woodward.”

There is also the aspect of camaraderie in the locker room, which is an underrated part of any sports team. He said that on the soccer team, the locker room is “like a switch.” For part of the time, they’re “just having fun shaving heads.” (Speaking of which, Duncan now has a low taper fade.) The other half of the time, they’re “completely locked in.”

I also wondered how Lovett would do in the postseason. Duncan said that the team is “definitely going to make it to the playoffs.” He said he doesn’t know how we’ll do, but he thinks we can “kind of make a fun run,” referring to the playoff games.

Moving from this season, I wondered what he thought of our future potential. He said that next year will be “maybe not as strong next year,” but things could still change. He said that in his junior and senior years, the team could be really good.

After the interview, Duncan was going to “go straight to take the test.” He was a bit “scared about that.”
