Easter in ATL, and don’t know what to do? I’ve got the cure for you. If you didn’t read my last article “Taking on Atlanta” I am a girl with lots of knowledge of ATL. Since Easter is coming up and you didn’t stop reading this article after the first sentence, then I’m guessing you’re staying in Atlanta for Easter break. Or not and you’re just looking for a good read. I will be exploring websites and itineraries to find what is right for you this egg-cellent weekend.
First up on the itinerary and most importantly are Easter egg hunts. Yes, it may sound childish but who doesn’t like free candy? Callanwolde Fine Arts Center hosts an “eggstravaganza” every year. (So. Many. Egg puns.) This event has things from bouncy houses to egg hunts. So if you are interested in leaping back in time for a little while to be a kid again, hop over to Callanwolde Fine Arts Center.
Now if you want to get a laugh out of something other than little kids running around looking for eggs, Good Friday Comedy Show is hosting a show on Friday, April 7, at 11:00 pm. They say despite the difficulties everyone faces god remains faithful and we can still find joy amidst the struggles. The show will hold improv, live sketches, interactive games, giveaways… and, yes, worship. Perhaps they’ll mix a good bit of God into their jokes so if you want to celebrate Good Friday with worship but still would like some giggles, come here.
Some people celebrate Easter with worship and brunch, but others do it with physical exercise. With Run for Hope, you can run as far as you want at the pace you want, and everyone gets a T-Shirt ((Or Tech Shirt Upgrade for Premium Packets). There will be Finisher’s Medals. According to 404area.com, medals will be awarded based on encouraging stories you share with our Newsletter and community of runners!). People who sign up get access to a virtual community of runners from all around the world that receive tips, inspiration, giveaways, and ongoing challenges to keep them going, and motivated to get healthy. This event will be held on the 8th of April at 7:30 am on Cochran Shoals Trail. So if you are interested in getting fit and enjoying a nice trail, go to this!
If you’re not a trail runner but still would like to get in shape this easter the Roland Burks Fitness Spring Sweatdown: Easter Edition is being held this Saturday, April 8th at 8:45 am. This is a full-body workout designed perfectly to help you get back in shape. The workout will include strength, conditioning, and core exercises to help your body have major transformations. What better way to celebrate Easter’s idea of rebirth than by making your own body healthier?
Though working out sounds like an eggceptional thing to do this weekend exercise isn’t for everyone. An Easter Alpaca Barn Tour at Creekwater Alpaca Farm is being held on Saturday, April 8th at 11:00 AM. Don’t let the name fool you because not only will there be alpacas, but also bunnies, goats, horses, and pigs will be present! This is a hands-on experience that is 100% family-friendly. They also have a gift shop with alpaca fiber clothing, accessories, and more!
Now if all that hopping leaves you hungry for a nice spot for brunch, according to Yelp the top 10 easter brunches you need to try are at Canoe, Buttermilk Kitchen, Atlanta Breakfast Club, Omni Hotel at The Battery Atlanta, Ray’s On the River, South City Kitchen Buckhead, Two Urban Licks, Murphy’s, Poor Calvins, and Kurt’s Euro Bistro. All of these brunches sound extremely tasty so if you have time give them a try. As you might imagine, there are lots of tasty variations on egg dishes.
Lastly, if you are more interested in chilling at home this break you can dye some easter eggs, or make an Easter Egg Topiary Tree, Colorful Crocheted Easter Basket, Paper Hyacinths, Washi Tape Eggs, Chick Bookmar, Washi Tape Easter Egg Picture Frame, or an Embroidery Hoop Bunny. If you want to learn more about each of these ideas go to thepionerwoman.com.
So now you have a few options for your long weekend. Run. Laugh. Eat. Make stuff. But rest is key for breaks, so don’t overdo it. Happy Easter.
